The Fertile Ground

This is a mind/body health book I wrote because of my childhood and adulthood experiences. I discovered other avenues to travel seeking happiness for both my mind and my body. These avenues, which were not outside of my own experience, were way different from what I was taught.

At six years of age I witnessed what the power of prayer can do to change a physical problem through mental intention. At nine I realized my parents didn't know what the word love meant and found an avenue to travel for more information on that subject. At ten I decided to become a Catholic priest, a nun told me she married Jesus to experience love. At thirteen, just two weeks before going into a seminary, I decided not to go. At fourteen just after receiving an "F" grade in religion class, where I thought I would learn about love, I realized, "I wasn't going to learn about love from priests, brothers or nuns."

Remembering an old saying from St. Thomas Aquinas I learned as an alter boy to "Test everything," I decided to love myself and I started to ask this question, "If I love myself, would I have these thoughts." In my later teenage years I added, "If I love myself, would I breathe, drink or eat this stuff."

Drafted into the Army in 1969, I again witnessed how powerful is prayer and surrendered to it completely, "Thy will be done." While training to be a combat medic and later with other duties, the Army inspired me to become a doctor. I did very well in my doctorate program and was asked to be a professor. I also started a private practice. Later I specialized but with all that training it still boils down to this. To be healthy in this modern artificial world, reduce your mental conflicts and physical frictions, which are all stressful, and at the same time add the evolutionary biological needs for a healthy life, like fresh air, clean water and good food. This evolutionary biological lifestyle will create a balanced natural life so you will be mentally and physically healthy that many of us modern humans have lost, surviving civilized today.

It's been said, "Every living being longs to be happy, without natural mind and body health is happiness possible?"

Discover in this book what is real natural health because it has a very old experience. An experience that has 3.5 billion biological years of being healthy.

Since I was a child, I have only been interested in doing what's right. Raised a Roman Catholic and guided by a variety of priests, nuns and brothers, I started to question what I was learning at a very young age. Even in my doctorate training I wanted to do what't right and questioned what I was learning, especially about the use of drugs and poisons like mercury. Today my practice is all about giving out health information so anyone can make an intelligent decision on the direction to follow about their mind/body health. My dental practice is very limited to the art of dentistry. I am a specialist in reconstruction and TMJ dentistry and focus my practice on the most difficult and challenging cases.

Many patients just want their black mercury/silver fillings to be replaced with high noble gold restorations. High noble gold is 85-90% pure gold and will not ever break. Porcelain materials are tooth colored materials, which are not as strong as gold and may have a shorter life expectancy. Porcelain material is a better material than composite and mercury/silver fillings for replacing lost tooth tissue in my opinion. If it is not a big cavity in the tooth, my first choice for myself and anyone else who has very little vanity would be high noble gold restoration.

This above picture is an example of a needed complete dental rehabilitaton, involving the repositioning of the TM joints, periodontal bone and gums surgery and placing crowns on all the teeth of this patient. This rehabilitation was necessary to restore natural harmony because of chronic pain and a history of dental disease. These crowns are porcelain crowns that have a high noble gold supporting substructure under the porcelain and is the strongest material combination modern dentistry has to offer for restoring teeth.

The great questions, you know the questions as well as I do. What is the true meaning of life? What do we stand for? How certain are you about your beliefs?

Can you be certain about anything in a world of constant change? How have all the new scientific discoveries, the impact of quantum theory, the influences of culture, including our families, relationships, religion, schooling, movies, music, technology, social media, popular culture, health and nutrition, our beliefs from ancient to modern times, influenced us?

Do we base our opinions on facts? Does our culture value fact finding and questioning of today's norm? How does all this information affect our souls, our humanity, our thoughts and feelings? Have we been taught to truly live and love ourselves and one another?

How much of these outside influences are subliminal? Do you have repetitive thoughts and worries? Do these outside influences serve us as human beings?

What do we cling to that may no longer be serving us? Where is our hope? Why are we so divided?

What is our relationship to change? What is our relationship to the cosmos, to the plants and animals, to our natural environment?

What was the outlook of our ancestors towards Nature, towards life? What are we evolving towards, in mind and body? What is sacred to us? Where is our faith? What about honesty, virtue and integrity? How does religion influence us? Are we moving towards life and living or furthering this civilizing surviving lifestyle with all these modern diseases?

In observing this, our modern world, these essays and some with rhyme of "The Fertile Ground" will give us "food" for thought.

The reader is called upon to reexamine and contemplate their "inner" lives and their relationships to the "outer" sacred, which is our relationships to the natural world, where we all dwell.

The reader is challenged to understand God's and Nature's "bell curve" of phenomenal mind/body life and to ponder where our social influences of today are moving and specifically, what is your part in this movement and in your own direction in living and surviving life.

"Know Yourself" is the oldest continuous thought for the human mind and body.
